Nature’s Symphony [poetry]

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

Nature’s Symphony

my even steady steps keep the beat

the cold north wind is the conductor

i hear him as he whispers to the trees

they reply with low creaks and cracks

and the branches sway to his rhythm

the creek flows and chatters beside me

gurgles and babbles as I cross the bridge

wind whistles through the trees and snap

small twigs tumble falling onto the path

echoes of chirps, tweets, twitters, cheeps

chickadees, nuthatches and woodpeckers

a familiar smell, drifting of burning wood

evoke memories of a cozy warm fireplace

I follow the ninemile creek to the open end

the waters first flow into Colman Lake and

then into the Minnesota River where it will

eventually find its way into the Mississippi
