I call it my Genghis Khan theory, but really don’t think I’m in his direct linage. I just speculate there may be some Mongolian blood flowing in my veins. I base my theory on the location of my ancestral origins, facial features and blood type. My mom’s parents and their parents were Germans who settled in Romania by the Black Sea. The Black Sea is a marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean lying between Europe and Asia; east of the Balkans in Southeastern Europe, south of the East European Plain in Eastern Europe, west of the Caucasus, and north of Anatolia in Western Asia. My grandmother and her siblings had black hair and dark skin, not fair North European complections. My mom and her brothers had black hair. Her older brother especially had the most almond shaped eyes. Lastly, my mom passed on her blood type to me, B negative. The blood type B being found more prevalently in Asian populations.
ABO Blood Groups
This system classifies blood types as follows:
Blood group A has A antigens on the red blood cells.
Blood group B has B antigens.
Blood group O has neither A nor B antigens.
Blood group AB has both A and B antigens.
Rh system
Red blood cells may have another antigen called the Rh antigen on their surface. If it is present, the blood group is Rh-positive, but if it is absent, the blood group is Rh-negative.
Why is Type B Blood so Important
Less than 2% of the population have B negative blood.
B negative red blood cells can be given to both Band AB patients. B negative patients can only receive blood from other B negative donors or from type O negative donors (who are the universal donors).
Type B blood most prevalent in Asians
According to the American Red Cross, the following statistics show the most common blood types in the U.S.:
African American: 47% O-positive, 24% A-positive, and 18% B-positive
Latin American: 53% O-positive, 29% A-positive, and 9% B-positive
Asian: 39% O-positive, 27% A-positive, and 25% B-positive
Caucasian: 37% O-positive, 33% A-positive, and 9% B-positive
BUT.....
.... so far my theory is not proven; however, I’m not sure many Mongolians are sending their saliva to Ancestry.com!!!!
And to my surprise, I’m 1% Jewish, who knew.
